Taking Food Fairs to a Different Level!

 

As people trickled into for the Food Fair, the sound of music, laughter and enjoyment surrounded the Botanical Gardens. With an exceptional array of food tasters and a range of drinks, the TCA Food Fair 2013 was a great place for everyone.

Alex Nkoswe, Holiday Inn Executive Chef, Joe Vock, Southern Sun Executive Chef and Jez Simms, ATS Group, demonstrating their signature dishes to Mikey, the Mixologist flattering the audience with his bar-tending skills, this was a one-of-a-kind event that should not have been missed.

AK’s Café titillated the taste buds of many by presenting extravagant smoothies and food tasters. The National College of Tourism (NCT) had student chefs exhibiting beef skewers and an assortment of sandwiches that catered to everyone’s needs. From a selection of Tanzanian fruits to an incomparable aperitivo section by Eric Buitendijk, Waterfront, Slipway Executive Chef and his team, the Food Fair catered to everyone’s taste while providing an explosion of flavours.

With the savory comes the sweet! Kahawa Café, Tamu, Nelwa’s Gelato, Chocolate Mamas and Epidor Café balanced the guest’s and children’s palate by contributing to the event with their fantastic tarts, cakes, macaroons, Tanzanian chocolate and Gelato ice-cream.

The aim of the Tanzanian Chefs Association (TCA) Food Fair was to give participants an opportunity to promote and illustrate culinary art and bring awareness to the audience in the development and quality within that field.

CEFA had an opportunity to further encourage their project on labour, empowerment and social services for vulnerable people in Dar-es-Salaam by having representatives present and providing guests with tasters made by students who have been a part of the CEFA three month vocational training under the culinary and hospitality industry.

The show would not have been possible without Southern Sun Hotel, Dar-es-Salaam. The support provided by Adam Fuller, General Manager, Southern Sun, Dar-es-Salaam and his team was remarkable. Basel Gadzios, Managing Director, Coca-Cola and his team were the backbone for the TCA, Food Fair. From the in-kind support to the constant backing, together the show was possible and an exceptional success.

The encouragement from Elements, Monster, CFAO Motors Tanzania, Alliance Autos, Red n’ White, Bright Choice Limited, Farmers Choice, Shopper Plaza, Jacky’s, Heinz, and Peroni was fantastic. The positive drive from the partnership built was clearly seen through the achievement of the event.

Having an opportunity to speak with some of the guests present, it was clear that the event was a success. Taking Food Fairs to a different level, TCA has been asked by several to do the event more than once a year.  We will have to wait and watch to see if this is the case!
